It's what I use now, and it basically does the job. (Please read my script before you use it - I make no guarantee!)
I agree that one shouldn't re-alias <tt>rm</tt> to another script (ok, maybe <tt>rm -i</tt>, but certainly not <tt>saferm</tt>). But there's no reason not to just use another command instead.
