I too discovered the powers of osCommerce this year. I have been a professional web designer since 1996 but my knowlege of PHP is minimal.
This year I decided to set up an online store for my wife ready for when our son is born in April to give her a side of our business she can easily run from home.
I checked out several eCommerce solutions both free and licensed and osCommerce offered me the most freedom to customize not only the functionality of the store but also the appearance.
Building www.the-best-gifts-online.com took only 2 months in my spare time (though spare time did often mean working till 6am). Personally I think it was 2 months well spent with over 2,000 products added and everything on the site re-designed.
Designer friendly
