OO Nice but Not Perfect

Posted by: Anonymous Coward on December 09, 2003 11:03 AM
I like OO a lot and use it at work just to test drive it regularly. There are several things that still need improvement -- in my view -- but it is quite solid and does not seem to crash often and as of 1.1 it is really quite usable and quite nice.

That said, there are two big issues I've found:

I have found that in fact OO suffers from the same 30MB limit--at least in impress. As a matter of fact I've found impress to cause my biggest problems. And you do loose your data and presentation when this happends--at leaste some times. This is a bug that needs to be fixed.

The other thing I don't like about OO is calc has no multivariate solver/optimizer which is a big shortcoming. Not a bug -- but a deal breaker for me. I can't drop M$ Excel without a solver.

All-in-all I like OO quite a lot and use it when I can. 1.1 was major improvement of 1.0 and I look forward to continued improvements.
