Read the series of articles by Daniel Robbins on OpenSSH key management on IBM developerWorks (http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/libr<nobr>a<wbr></nobr> ry/l-keyc.html). It explains how ssh-agent and keychain work for manual login and for automated tasks and in my opinion is much better than the present article.
