The term "folder" for directories is older than Windows by years. It's a term that applied to mail and possibly used before that.
I've been using GNU/Linux since 1997, actually, and *exclusivly* GNU/Linux since 1999, meaning I don't have any Windows boxes, don't even use it at work.
I think you're missing the point of trying to write in voice.
