How to promote - supplement

Posted by: Anonymous Coward on April 24, 2004 11:49 PM
I have some supplements:

  • Find appropriate forums/ websites and announce your software there.

There are many linux - forums where you might tell of your linux-program, and you too might search for possible users for your specific program, due to it's special purpose - i.e.: a DNA - Viewer could be promoted at biologist-sites.

Have a look at other announcements and orient on their style. Your posting will be recognized with more sympathy, if you are a valuable member of that forum.

    http://freshmeat.net/

is generally a good site for OpenSource promotion.

  • Announce your webpage at google and other searching-machines. To make this work properly, make your pages indexable by robots. You find a good explanation of html-metainformation (language: german) at

    http://selfhtml.teamone.de/

  • Look at examples of promotion which catched your interest. Why did they catch you?
    Lern from the best.
