Based on information floating around, some official some not, and based on what I personally spent on one of my consoles, this will be a pretty expensive console. Heres my cost breakdown, based on 3 years usage:
- $30 per month cost based on 2 year sign up over 3 years is $1080 dollars, not including taxes, and for basic content only.
- $30 per game for a "Premium" Title, I am going to go with 10 games per year ( I buy more but I am being moderate) theres another $900 over 3 years. Since you can't shop around for the best price, and cannot buy used titles, you are stuck with what Infinium charges you.
- $5 per rental on "Premium" titles, Easily 15 to 20 titles a year rented. another $225 there over 3 years.
This comes to a moderate estimate of $2205 over 3 years in $US, for us Canucks, it would amount to about $3100.
Of course you ABSOLUTELY need to be hooked up on a broadband connection, which severely limits the number of people who can connect. And of course, if you HAVE a broadband connection that is capped on how much you can download, you are restricted there as well. Not to mention the fact that, if your machine "goes down" you have to redownload all your content again. At an easy 1GB per "Premium" Title (A guess since we do not know what a "Premium" Title is) that is a lot of downloading, and if you DO have a cap, you won't be able to get all your games back in one shot.
There just seems to be too many limiting factors to have this catch on. You cannot bring a game over to a friends place to play there, you cannot "give" your buddies games you don't want anymore. You cannot buy used titles at all. there are NO extra features, such as cd/dvd playing ability ( which makes at least one less purchase for a multimedia system).
Gonne be expensive

Enough of my rant.
