They look alike, and they do the same thing. True, there are quite a bit differences deep down, but to the average user, they are very much alike.

And my point was that Kword and OO's Writer are designed around two different paradigms. Writer is page-oriented (like MS Word is), whereas Kword is frame-oriented (like Framemaker is)

Isn't that what's happening right now? Koffice is migrating to OO's fileformats as their default fileformat. In the near future, we will have two competing office-suites that are 100% compatible with each other.

BTW: does OO open Koffice-files? I honestly don't know.
