Re:Simple fixes
Posted by: Anonymous Coward on August 10, 2004 04:29 AM#1. CVSUP was slow because the main sites t1 was downgraded to an ADSL line. It clearly showed this on the forums.
#2. You should have defind X_WINDOW_SYSTEM before building X. This is a FreeBSD ports change that recently happened.
#3. SMP would most likely work if you boot w/o ACPI and or turn off HTT in the BIOS. This is actually a known bug no CERTAIN machines.
#4. The FAQ covers most of the problems you've encountered. Did you read it?
At any rate, you really should redo this review and spend more than 20 minutes on playing with DFLY if you want to do a fair and balanced review.
All of us would have loved to help you via IRC before spreading FUD.
Regards.
