*Most* apps do run on all distributions - it all depends on library versions.. It takes a bit of tweaking, but you can do it (generally without recoding any part of the application - well, maybe recompiling...) What does NOT come with every distribution is support for the given application. Oracle "doesn't run on Gentoo", yet I know people who run Oracle on Gentoo - granted, not at work but at home...
