Death by Backhoe!

This solution unfortunately can be brought to its knees by a stray backhoe, and that's a real barrier to implementation in the field. Anyone seen a (non-hack) set-up that will allow WAN-linked sites to suffer a disconnection for an hour or two and still survive? Updates are not critical during this time, as long as the master system can receive updates and spool them out later on.

Something like Hesiod .. but more secure. Any idea? Will LDAP replication do this without eventually locking out stuff? URLs greatly appreciated!
