Folks,

Thanks for all the answers regarding OpenLDAP, replication and backhoes. To settle your fears, I'm not in a mixed enviro myself, I *do* have a multi-purpose server at each site that would work wonderfully as an OpenLDAP replication peer/sub, and I am that much more confident about the whole idea of going with OpenLDAP.

Now, this eDirectory stuff will be some new reading, and I look forward to it.

I only hope that OpenLDAP can notify slaves of altered master data, to hopefully shorten refresh time (again, like Hesiod, but with IN records).

Either way, I'm very, very thankful for your replies, and I think I only need a free peerfs.com solution to get me to the day when I respect but no longer fear the backhoe.
