More than just that

I've remotely upgraded two machines from Debian Woody to Ubuntu Warty seamlessly. All I had to do was update the apt sources.list, apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade... and presto I had a new Debian-based system.

When I read articles like this one, I struggle to understand why anyone would want to install an RPM off some stray internet site when it makes so much more sense to let your distributor do the packaging for you and install a copy of the application that is already tweaked to work with your distribution.
