I would disagree. Linus is a competent programmer, good engineer but an amazing manager. Linux (kernel) got where it is today in a large part because Linus is very good at making different people do their jobs well. Think about it: he isn't even paying them, which a lot better then most managers on Earth can claim to have achieved.
