I'm a Citrix admin among other things, and the anon user makes a valid point. Dual 3Ghz machine's can run 30-55 users well on NX or Citrix, depending on the application or remote desktop.
I have used NX, and it is comparable to Citrix. The only problem is that it doesn't run on a windows server, doesn't have a user web login interface(like nFuse), and possibly doesn't have the same standard of management tools. By standard, I mean raising priorites of application or desktop processes among other things.
I don't know if there is a solution yet. But if somebody gets NX or a clone running well on a windows server, that will take away 90 percent of the headache and 90 percent of the cost. 20 client/user licenses in Citrix are $12,000.00. Add the $2000.00 for TS CAL's and 2K/2K3 software per server after that. You have 60 people logging in, and you could hire a FTE to install the apps and maintain them for you. It really is disappointing cost-wise.
The application vendors are always the weakest link. And most app vendors are in vertical markets, and so they tend to suck for OS's diverging from Microsoft. No, I take that back- they always suck. They are the reason why I'm paying so damn much for all of this software. And I hate them. You hear me you bastard programmers! Put the VB/.NET dick down! Losers.. anyhow, that's where I'm at. YMMV, but I doubt it.
Got a point
