By default, I find the mousewheel fairly useless. Make these two changes to set the mousewheel to zoom in and out.
Start the preferences dialog by clicking: File->Preferences->Input Controllers Set the Main Mouse Wheel event Scroll Up to view-zoom-in Set the Main Mouse Wheel event Scroll Down to view-zoom-out
