This project will be interesting to follow. Obviously 12 developers cannot generate a product of this magnitude. Their main task will be to cat-herd enough talented programmers ( >100,maybe? ) and assign them to the various areas of the Java platform. It will be fascinating to follow the management methods of what will be a very large project.
