Yes, digit numbering is an irritation because computers are still too stupid to distinguish between a digit as text and a text digit used as a sequential number. Only conceptual processing will change this nonsense.
I have over 250,000 babe pictures on my hard drive. I usually number them sequentially (within particular babe) and thus have to guess whether this babe will ever have more than 99 or more than 999 pictures. Sometimes I guess wrong - Keira Knightly is rapidly approaching a thousand even after only being a celebrity for the last two years. I could of course assume ALL of them could hit 9999 and use three leading zeros, but that really looks dumb when you have only 20 pictures of somebody new.
So I use a powerful file renaming program to renumber everything when I'm wrong.
Audio media programs that deign to assume how you are naming your MP3's irritate me, too. It took me a while to figure out how to get Winamp's media library to use MY filename instead of their parsing of it.
