I found a very good local ISP in Northern California, Raw Bandwidth (rawbw.com), after looking at reviews & comments at dslreports.com. It's a small shop that handles all the interface w/ SBC, and the service has been much more reliable and available than the prior cable system I had (one short outage that I noticed in 2+ yrs w/ DSL, vs 20+ outages, some lasting several days, in 3+ yrs w/ cable).
A bigger ISP might be better at holding your hand, if you get a response. I've gotten answers when needed from RawBw to help me solve problems on my end, but it's not a Linux support service. YMMV
Support responsiveness and expertise should be a very high priority for anyone considering an Internet-based business at home.
