Problems such as this just go to show the hidden power of Slackware. After using Debian for two years I was unsure about migrating to a distro that appeared to have very little in the way of package management tools. How wrong I was. The slackware package management tools (with the addition of checkinstall) provide the most useful, robust and flexible system that exists. Debian is a nice idea. Slackware is a better distro...
