I have to admit that while there may be some problems with apt, I've never encountered any that I couldn't fix by pointing my apt sources back to the Debian official mirrors and dist-upgrading. When I saw an article entitled "What to do when apt-get fails" my first thought was "What a needless article."
I guess some of you have had problems, but apt has always been reliable for me.
