TI and Linux

While I'm always excited about new corporations finding new uses for open source software, I am questioning TI. Why does a company that is benefitting from OSS in the embedded/small electronics field not embrace the open source community in their microchip field. For example, why does TI not release open source (or at least half-open source) drivers for wireless cards using their chipset. AFAIK, TI indicated that it was not going to help the open source community in any way (with regard to their chipset). Open source software is meant for everybody, but it would be nice to give as well as recieve.

P.S.
Many other wireless chip manufacturers have helped the open source community (whether by actually writing drivers, providing open specs, writing abstraction layers in firmware to avoid FCC trouble, etc.): Intersil (now Conextant), Atheros, Intel, and Ralink.
