While it is worth listening to points raised by Debian, you're attributing far more weight to Debian than they either have, or deserve, in the free software community.
The so-called "Debian free software guidelines" are well-intentioned, but some really silly decisions have come out of Debian - for example, the rejection of all the documentation which is licensed under the GNU FDL. They're becoming the Robespierre of the Free Software revolution.
