I couldn't agree more. There's a reason Apple has spent years working to keep their computers in the hands of graphic arts students. Those students move out into the work force and spread their Apple preferences far and wide. The same can be done with open source software. Many close minded people use the status quo as an argument in favor of not fighting against it but that's a circular logic that is counter-evolutionary. Core computing concepts are for more important and better serve students than experience on a particular platform or software package.
