Niche programs is probably a more important use for Wine anyway, because the really big ones have Linux compatible counterparts, often. We've got multiple office suites availible, some with good compatability.
Here at this office we use a program called Frazer on all the computers. I tried getting it to run in Wine to no avail.
However, Wine does get Internet Explorer working well enough that I can use it for testing site code to ensure compatability. So thanks to Wine I have been able to migrate my ~own~ PC over to Linux, which is great because Windows drives me nuts.
If in a later release Frazer decides it wants to work in Wine, that might be the greatest thing ever. I'd like to make someone my guinie pig (yes my spelling is bad) and see if they could stand to use a Linux desktop.
That would be fantastic because Linux is much, much easier to idiotproof than Windows NT. Even running as a non-root user, running FireFox and locking down Internet Explorer best I can, they still manage to install MyCoolSpywareDownloader or whatever they call that crap these days.
Luckily it's a small office and it's just annoying. If this were a much larger office, migrating to Linux would be kickass.
