I always carry a IDE (2.5 & 3.5 inch) hd to usb cable. Came in handy. Another very good tool is a Live-CD distro (Knoppix, as long as it has modules for different FS such as NTFS). Will do wonders on diag and data recovery when Windows fail to boot.
