even if the populace doesn't believe that we should be as multilingual as we want everyone else to be, it is incumbent on sane people to break the chains of ethnic exclusivity and create online resources and books to empower anyone to learn foreign languages, and websites comparable to dating websties, to find study buddies to exchange foreign languages in a platonic manner.
this is not a small matter. imagine going to washington dc's prominent foreign language bookstore, and being kicked out because i wanted a list of the best books in a dozen or so languages that i just pulled off the shelves, for future reference to buy when i was ready to study them. the manager thought i was trying to undercut her enterprise, which i understand, but i really would have bought some of those books and never would try to compete with her in that way. but she must have regretted that a humble fellow american was denied the right to learn and study a foreign language affordably. after all, if you are willing to spend the time and effort to learn a foreign language, why should you be barraged with all the negative elements?
