My music collection has been ripped entirely as Vorbis and FLAC. I couldn't play these at all in the standard firmrware.
Being able to play my music without a timeconsuming transcoding process is more. The fact that I can also play chess and use my iPod as a calculator is nice too. It you don't use those features, they might not count as more in your tally but they are critical and important improvement.
My mother gave me an iPod and I didn't use it all until RockBox came along.
