cdrecord with the linux atapi patch is the current preferred tool.
SCSI is a shoddy way to interface to non-scsi devices. What we need is a standard interface for devices that are not SCSI that is not a faux-scsi interface. A single interface that is NOT scsi that works for both scsi and ide devices would work as well. Really though, it'd be more fun if cdrecord's functionality were built into the kernel.
