Sun has already discontinued NIS+. NIS will be included in Solaris 10 at release, however we have been told it will not be in Solaris 11. It may even be discontinued before Solaris 11 comes out. Since Solaris releases are 24-30 months apart, you do need to figure out how to do this now.
One thing I haven't seen in the discussions about NIS to LDAP transition, is how does LDAP handle files like groups, automount maps, services files, private NIS maps, etc. The authentication piece is easy, it is how to replace the rest of what NIS supports that is not clear.
