the mirroring process should be the same, and yast allows you to define custom update sites of many different types - nfs, ftp, http, etc..

once you have your mirror site up and running, run the online update program and change the source for updates.

the same can be done with the installation medium - the software page in yast allows you to add installation souces such as http, ftp, nfs, cd's, etc.. makes it a bit easier to install current packages, rather than add a package from cd then do the online update.
