For stratum-2 time servers, you should instead use the list at <A HREF="http://twiki.ntp.org/bin/view/Servers/StratumTwoTimeServers" title="ntp.org">http://twiki.ntp.org/bin/view/Servers/StratumTwoT<nobr>i<wbr></nobr> meServers</a ntp.org>. The list you mentioned is no longer being maintained by Dr. Mills.


For selecting upstream time servers (and how many you should use), you should see <A HREF="http://twiki.ntp.org/bin/view/Support/SelectingOffsiteNTPServers" title="ntp.org">http://twiki.ntp.org/bin/view/Support/SelectingOf<nobr>f<wbr></nobr> siteNTPServers</a ntp.org>. This page is just a small part of the overall topic, which I believe you would be well-served to read.


Moreover, you should not list real servers in configurations you use as examples, unless you're using the <A HREF="http://www.pool.ntp.org/" title="ntp.org">pool.ntp.org</a ntp.org> servers.


Please note that the NTP daemon is not "ntpdate". It is "ntpd". Moreover, <A HREF="http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~mills/ntp/html/ntpdate.html" title="udel.edu">ntpdate</a udel.edu> is being retired.
