I applaud the author for this article, however i was surprised to see no mention of <A HREF="http://people.redhat.com/dmalcolm/stateless/" title="redhat.com">the stateless linux project</a redhat.com>. It aims to deal with many, if not all, of the issues mentioned, and appears to be progressing rather quickly.
