In you article you start by saying that when you get rooted you can't trust any of your system binarys and then you proceed to use 'w' and other tools. Did you load those tools from a secure location like a floppy, USB-ram, etc.? I didn't see that mentioned. I have several live CD's and floppys with recovery tools that I can use with some confidence when I have problems.
