SSHFS works ok for a desktop in a stable LAN environment but isn't really a solution for laptops that may or may not be connected. Attempting to auto-mount resources that don't exist is an annoyance. For this reason, I stick with the Gnome built-in SSH mounts. They don't attempt to connect or authenticate until you actually use one so they don't produce a bunch of errors if you are offline.
