I've been looking for something exactly like this.
I have a server at home running Apache and SQL and to access it's data from my office, I've always had to use FTP.
This would make things a lot easier and a lot more secure, as I could have a filesystem commonly accessable from my workstation at home AND at the office, completely file system transparent!
