2. Not necessary in the context of the article. If you need to review Layer 3 and Layer 2 differences feel free to read the wiki yourself.

4. You've already corrected yourself on this one.
Bottom line is, read the article before trying to show off your self perceived technical knowledge.
I think the article gives the novice networker a good understanding of the technique.
