In case you missed the memo, the W3C standards ARE the ONLY standards for WWW, you use any other standard it ain't the web. M$ wanted to support www, so they implemented a broken version of the W3C standards, partly through incompetence, but mostly to try beat their competition through illegal use of their monopoly position (yes, found guilty in a US court of law even).
