Fortunately, I don't need Opera, Skype, or Adobe Reader. Instead, we have the following:

Opera --> Firefox or Konqueror
Skype --> Any multitude of Free Software SIP clients
Adobe Reader --> XPDF, KPDF, GPDF, and several others

Since we have the source, we can compile them in 64-bit mode.
