The length and alpha numeric make-up of these UUID's suggests that it is an extreme overkill if used only for the sole purpose of implementing the hda-> sda migration. Unless, of course, you can foresee at some point, the need to connect some number of billion (plus) physical devices to your local hardware. Not likely. Any reasonable analysis of these UUID's would logically conclude that the (as yet un-divulged) purpose of these ID's are far more than for the uses you cite. Suggesting 'Global Unique Identifiers' for hard drives and other hardware. Maybe then used as part of Cononical's commercial support (disk drive specific) verification mechanism.
Privacy Advocates will likely take Ubuntu to task for this. FOSS is about freedom. Intruding on users privacy goes against this end.
