I use abook for keeping track of my contacts (<a href="http://abook.sourceforge.net/" title="sourceforge.net">http://abook.sourceforge.net/</a sourceforge.net>). It's lightweight, has almost any dependencies, and it's to use with mutt(ng), which makes it the perfect choice for me. I can either run abook, select a conctact and press 'm' to call mutt to write a mail to that person, or I can run mutt and press 'Q' to query abook for a contact. Works really fine.
