This matter has been brought to the attention of Robin Miller, OSTG's editor-in-chief. I can tell you that if a parent comment is deleted, say, for having a subject like of "what the f***" or "what the s***," then all comments attached to it are removed as well.
That may be what is causing the confusion over why comments are deleted.
