talking new users, it would imho be good to mention the fact that updates that you receive via "emerge -ua world" are general updates of all packages and not just security updates. to find security problems look at the Gentoo Linux Security Advisories (eg.: @ <a href="http://www.gentoo-portage.com/GLSA" title="gentoo-portage.com">http://www.gentoo-portage.com/GLSA</a gentoo-portage.com>) and consider installing "emerge -a app-portage/gentoolkit" to use glsa-check. syncing and updating daily is overkill for the normal user.
