Re:Why text based

Email is text. Text based MUA's don't have all the vulnerabilities of the XSS web based mailers, and autoexecute everything nature of GUI MUA's. If I DO want to view HTML or an embedded picture, my mailcap is setup to launch the appropriate viewer / editor.

I also never have to take my hands off the keyboard to use Mutt. It's MUCH MUCH faster to read and manage email with Mutt than any other email client I have ever used (and I have used a lot over the years.) The "hooks" system automates much of what you manually have to do in a typical GUI MUA.

I think the question needs to be asked: what is the advantage of a GUI MUA to manage email which is 99%+ text only content? So far, I haven't seen one in my 20+ years of using email.
