There is lots of work being done to improve or lower the cost of the library catalog. Evergreen is a major o/s system being used in hundreds of Georgia libraries. Another twist is to leave the current system in place but add a better public interface. There is one using WordPress. Another system is SOPAC being used in Ann Arbor. The code4lib folks are exploring MySql, Lucene and Solr to construct a public system. Koha is just part of the story.
