I'd have to agree. Tabs look nice however this functionality has been around for quite some time (at least vim 5.x) you could split your buffer into however many files you wanted then use Ctl-WW and move between them nicely. Vim and buffers and or the use of screen could easily have solved the authors delima far before the release of vim 7..
