Interesting, sounds very similar to how I started phplist way back when. I know it's much more fun to write your own thing, but the increase in popularity of phplist (mostly with extremely novice users) has left me desperate to get some more help, as it's just me doing the coding.

The main trouble, once you get to that stage is the responsability of security. Alerting people who have downloaded your app of security issues, is a tricky matter, and I'd advise to add some automated "version check" to make sure people find out about vulnerabilities, before you end up having 100s of servers hacked because of that one little oversight. In general people don't seem to sign up to announcements mailinglists.
