No. It's not because of strong US economy that english is the primary spoken language. It's because of world dominance by Britain during 16,17,18 and first half of 19th century that english came to be seen as a communication medium.
As for the original article, it's really nice to see Brazil going from strength to strength. Linuxchix Australia is still young but it's growing as well. Goodluck!
