I have Edubuntu (Dapper) at home on the the kid's computer (ages 6 and 4) and really gCompris, ChildsPlay, tuxPaint and Abiword (OpenOffice is too bloated for this system) covers most of what they want to do at this point.

The Gartoons icons and the default desktops help give it a playful feel.

The only thing I have found that it lacks is a Parental Controls (no, not for controlling the parents ;). Either that or I am looking in the wrong place. At least we have dial-up internet and it is easy enough to set their logins to not have access to the modem.

The rest of the system is a full-featured enough that I have also been using the computer as my main computer without problems.

On a side note: keep a careful eye on them. My wife checked up on our 4 year old and found him trying to log in using the username "daddy". Four years old and he's already trying to hack into my account?! Best watch him carefully!!
