XP will be supported past 2009

Nice article, but one factual mistake in the last paragraph: Windows XP end-of-life is not in two years. Microsoft has said they will be providing security patches for XP until 2014 during what they call the Extended security phase:

<a href="http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=3221" title="microsoft.com">http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=3221</a microsoft.com>

That's a bit similar to what they did with Win98 which was supported from 1998 to 2006 in a similar fashion. So while projects like Edubuntu are great, and people should (must!) look at superior alternatives like Linux for they day-to-day computing needs, there is no incoming Microsoft doomsday in 2009 that will force users into the DRM-land provided by Vista.
